FAI met today with SSE Airtricity League Clubs   30/04/2020

The Football Association of Ireland met today with all SSE Airtricity League clubs and began work on a pathway for the future of National League football.

The Strategic Working Group meeting, held by video conference, was attended by FAI Interim CEO Gary Owens, Interim Deputy CEO Niall Quinn and Competitions Director Fran Gavin along with representatives from all League clubs.

Presentations made to the clubs included the findings of recent market research on the League conducted for the FAI by an external agency and a potential commercial strategy for domestic football.

The group will now look at potential structures for the SSE Airtricty League going forward and will explore a best-practice commercial plan. Clubs have also been asked to provide feedback on their requirements from any new participation agreement.

It was agreed that external expert advice may be added to the group which will now meet weekly.

Commenting on today’s meeting, FAI Interim Deputy CEO Niall Quinn said: “We had a very productive meeting where all parties agreed to continue to work together for the development of our League and to do what is best for Irish football.

“Some good progress was made today. A clear determination was expressed by the clubs to examine all potential avenues for our League and we look forward to working together as a group in the coming weeks and months.”
